Tutorial: run a QR card campaign for Google reviews

Design, print and place QR cards, then read after two weeks whether they are working.

In this tutorial you design QR cards for a funnel, print them, place them, and read after two weeks whether they are working. It takes about half an hour, plus printing.

You need a funnel with at least one review link. See How to create your first review funnel.

Step 1: Decide where the cards go

Walk through a customer's visit and note the moments they have a minute and a phone in hand:

  • waiting to pay, at the counter or till;
  • sitting at a table, after the meal or treatment;
  • unpacking a takeaway or delivery bag;
  • reading a receipt or invoice.

Choose one or two places to start. You can add more once you see what works.

Step 2: Design the card

  1. Open QR cards in the rail (under Tools).
  2. Under Funnel, choose the funnel. The card's code opens it, and scans are counted apart from the shared link.
  3. Under Size, choose the card for the place:

Table, window or bagSticker

Wall or doorA5 sign
Your own menu or artworkCode only
  1. Under Template, choose a starting point for the colors.
  2. Under Wording, write a short Heading and Sub-line, for example "How was your visit?" and "Scan to tell us. It takes a minute." Short lines print larger.
  3. Under Logo, show the funnel's logo or upload one.
  4. Under Colors, keep the code dark on a light background. The card warns you under the preview if a choice might not scan.
  5. Press Save card and give it a name, such as "Counter card, High Street".

Step 3: Print it

  • Print prints one card, or a sheet of several, at full size.
  • Download PNG or Download SVG gives you a file for a print shop. SVG stays sharp at any size; the readout under the card gives the size to ask for.

Before printing a hundred, print one and scan it with two different phones, from the distance a customer would stand.

Step 4: Place the cards and brief your staff

  • At eye level, facing the customer, where they wait.
  • Away from glare: glossy laminate can reflect light into the camera.
  • Tell your staff what the card is for. A simple "If you have a minute, we'd love to hear how we did" when the customer has just been served makes a large difference.

Step 5: Read the results after two weeks

  1. Open the funnel's Share tab. Is it being seen shows page opens, opens from the QR code, and ratings for the period.
  2. On the Overview, choose the funnel and look at From scan to review link: page opened, rated, opened a review link.
  3. In Analytics, look at Busiest times to see when customers rate.

What to change:

You seeTry
Few opens from the QR codeMove the card to where customers wait, or make it bigger
Many opens, few ratingsShorten the questions in Set up → Questions
Many ratings, few review link opensCheck each review link works, and keep the thank-you wording short

See From scan to review link.

Keep the cards working

The code on a card always opens the same funnel. You can change the funnel's look, questions, review links and address afterwards without reprinting. If you switch the funnel off, anyone who scans is told the page is paused.
